Thunderbolt External Video Card: Sonnet GPU box for Ultrabooks with Radeon RX 570

With external graphics cards (eGPUs), the graphics power of laptops with IGPs can be greatly increased. Depending on the model, the new GFX Breakaway Puck GPU box is powered by an AMD Radeon RX 560 or Radeon RX 570.

Sonnet has a lot of experience with Thunderbolt expansion systems as well as many related products. With the eGFX Breakaway Puck family of external graphics card enclosures, there’s now a comparatively compact and portable way to connect eGPUs to computers running Thunderbolt 3. This allows gamers in graphics-intensive games as well as creative professionals to enjoy more video performance in video workflows.

The eGPU box is available in two versions: eGFX Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 560 (GPU-RX560-TB3) and eGFX Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 570 (GPU-RX570-TB3). The handy graphics boxes each measure 152.4 x 130 x 51 millimeters and can, therefore, be stored together with the notebook in the laptop bag or in the backpack. However, the GPU-RX560-TB3 with its built-in Radeon RX 560 graphics card puts an extra 1.88 kilos on the luggage and the 2.38 kilogram GPU RX570-TB3 (AMD Radeon RX 570).

As interfaces, the eGPUs each have a Thunderbolt 3 port, three DisplayPorts and an HDMI port. In multi-monitor mode, eGFX Breakaway Pucks each support up to four 4K monitors. Connected to the notebook is the puck via Thunderbolt-3 cable. He brings an additional power supply of 45 watts, over which the connected computer can also be charged.

With an optional VESA mounting kit, Sonnet’s eGFX Breakaway Puck can also be mounted on the back of a monitor or on a multi-monitor stand to save space. A DisplayPort cable with a length of 50 centimeters is included. The devices are now available (EIAs):
